MAT/CHAHITA
Mathematical Association of Tanzania (MAT) is a non-governmental organization established for the purpose of improving Mathematics education in Tanzania. The Association was established since 1966 and it has been active ever since.
Founding the Association
The Mathematical Association of Tanzania was duly registered by the Registrar of Societies in the Ministry of Home affairs on 15th April, 1966 and given registration number SO No. 5131. The English name of the association, abbreviated MAT remained intact while its Swahili equivalent has changed from "Chama cha Hesabu Tanzania" proposed in 1973 to "Chama cha Hisabati Tanzania" and abbreviated CHAHITA.
Objects of MAT/CHAHITA are:
- To effect improvements in the teaching of Mathematics and its applications
- To provide means of communication for this purpose
- To take such measures as may appear expedient to advance the views of the Association on any questionaffecting the study and teaching of mathematics and its applications
MAT has tried its best to live up to the expectations of its founding members
